FINAL ORIGIN: THE PENNYWINKEL SAGA

by 8-Bit Star

-------And now for something that's------
-------exactly the same: A pre-story----
-------rant. Enjoy.---------------------

Final Origin was and is my last attempt to
write an origin story for my three characters,
Frog, Pennywinkel, and Mademanna. It is devided
up into three "Sagas" (For no better reason than
because I've become a Dragon Ball-aholic). The
story is done as a weekly serial, similar to those
old Saturday Matinees where you'd watch a 15-minute
episode which would end in a cliffhanger, and you'd
have to come back next week to see how it turned out.
The first Saga, the Frog Saga, introduced
Mademanna, a robot who was built and programmed
to be just like a human in every way, and her
"Brother" Frog, who, under the control of an evil
ring, had become a dispicable villain. Actually,
he was more of a pathetic villain, but I'm sure you
realise that.
This is the Pennywinkel Saga. Read on if you
really must know who Pennywinkel is.

FINAL ORIGIN: THE PENNYWINKEL SAGA

EPISODE IV: PENNYWINKEL!

It was now about a week ago that the Rangers had
had their short battle with Frog, who ultimately turned
out to be under the control of an evil ring.
Chip initially had thought the whole ring thing
was some sort of trick to get Frog into their headquarters,
at which point he would backstab them all and take the
girl, Mademanna, who had been his initial target. He
had forgotten exactly why he had even let Frog stay with
them in the first place. Maybe it was that he wanted to
know the *real* story behind Frog's attack, doubting the
story Frog had told about his sister, Mademanna, being a
robot who knew the secret to immortality. Maybe it was
some nagging feeling that told him he really *was* just
under a spell, or maybe it was Mademanna's sudden concern
for Frog's health. Or maybe it was just plot convenience.
Yea, that's it.
Whatever the case, Frog wasn't turning out half as
bad as Chip had initially suspected. He helped Gadget and
the other Rangers build a pump so they could get rid of the
water that, at the time, was flooding the headquarters. He
also quite wisely splashed this water around in a way where
it evenly watered a few plants and even the roots of the
Ranger's own tree.
After the water had been all pumped out, Frog had
decided to dry the whole place up, and also dusted and
cleaned every last inch (even the ceiling) while he was
at it. Turned out Frog was a compulsively neat, clean,
and orderly type.
Quite obviously, Frog didn't get much of a chance
to talk.
Right now, Frog was working on his sister's hand.
seemed it had developed a kink and one of the fingers
wouldn't move. Frog knew there was only one way to fix
this, so he took her to Gadget's workshop, and explained
the problem, and asked if she had some tools he could use.
Gadget, being the nice girl she is, was happy to let Frog
borrow them, but became almost horrified when the first
thing he did was take a scalpel and cut off the skin of
Mademanna's hand.
Under the skin was a not-very-pretty mass of yucky
red stuff, but Frog managed to clear some of it away,
revealing a metal hand under it. That hand contained a
small switch that Frog flipped, and he proceeded to clean
off the rest of the artificial blood.
Frog noticed that Gadget was looking on in horror
and awe, and explained "Didn't I once tell you guys she
was a robot? She was programmed to look, act, and feel
totally human, that included blood emulation. Thing is,
our fathers--Mine and Pennywinkel's, that is--realized
she might need maintainance from time to time, so he
put in these switches which allow us to turn off her
blood emulation should the need arise."
He looked at her now clean hand again, and pointed
out "I think I found your problem. Somehow this hard
rock got into your system and was blocking the movement
of this finger's skeleton." He took out said rock with
tweezers. Mademanna then flexed her hand, confirming
it was fixed, and said "Thanks, Frog!"
"No problem, now I just need to put your skin back
on. Say, Gadget, you wouldn't happen to have any bandages,
would you?" Frog asked as he slipped the skin neatly back
on Mademanna's metallic skeletal hand. Gadget confirmed
that she did, in case of accidents (In short, she stockpiles
before every episode, and even moreso for fanfics) and
went to get them.
She came back with them, and Frog quickly applied
a strip to the part of Mademanna's skin which he had cut
open. Then he gave her a hug and all was well.
Chip had been watching the whole time. He came in,
standing next to Gadget, and said "So you weren't kidding
when you said she was a robot."
"Well, if ya wanna be specific, she's an android,
a robot which has human characteristics."
"Isn't that a cyborg?" Gadget asked.
"No, a cyborg is a person who has robotic implants."
"So," Chip asked, interrupting this intellectual
conversation, "I'm supposing its also true she knows the
secret of immortality?"
"*That* was false. Not even sure where I got such
an idea, actually. Pretty sure it had something to do
with that ring though, because I'm not sure where I got
that, either. I didn't even know I had it." Frog began
walking out of the room, and said "Hey, what plays on
TV around these parts?"
"Mostly brain-rotting junk. Dale's always watching
it," Chip commented.
"What? Ya mean this universe doesn't have anything
intellectual?"
"Universe?" both Chip and Gadget asked at the same
time.
"Err, I mean, area."
"Chip exaggerates," Gadget responded, "Some of the
shows on television are more intellectual than he likes to
admit--He's more into books--And even some of that 'brain-
rotting junk' is entertaining."
"Oeth," Frog sayeth, just as he was leaving the room
to watch some of that mind-rotting junk.
Dale came running up to Frog, saying "Hey, Frog, think
you can teach me that trick?"
"What trick?"
"That big energy blast you did that almost killed us."
"Oh, the Kamehameha! hehe... well... no."
"Whaddya mean no?"
"Well, I learned it through years of hard training
with some of the best warriors ever to inhabit a universe.
You've got to be really strong and talented before you can
pull it off. I had to have a power level of one hundred
and fifty before I could really work it."
"Power level?"
"Come on, I'm obviously going to have to show you
some Dragon Ball."
"What's Dragon Ball?"
Frog hurried up getting to the room with the
television, Dale following close behind.

Two sillouhetted forms were watching the Ranger
Headquarters from a distance, using binoculars to spy
on the inhabitants.
A male voice asked "What are the inhabitants doing
now?"
A female voice replied "I can only see two of them,
and they're just watching TV. One of them is Frog."
"Oh, the traitor. We're going to have to deal with
him, aren't we?"
"Sure, in whatever mean and violent way we can
come up with."
"Or we can get him back on our side."
"He's betrayed us once, he'll more than likely
do it again."
"That's why I like you, you've got such a good mind."
"I know."

Later that night, the Rangers heard a knock on the
door. It kept getting louder, rapider, and more incessant,
kinda like the intro to Earthbound. Finally Dale decided
to get up and answer it.
Opening the door, he saw a girl, who in terms of size
went up to about Dale's nose, had long brown hair, was wearing
a hat and cape, and under it, a white overcoat, a pink shirt,
and blue jeans, and finally white tennis shoes. Dale figured
she must be an associate of Frog and Mademanna, because like
them, she appeared to be a human rather than some sort of
forest creature.
The girl simply said "I've come to arrest a traitor."
"Frog," Dale called out, "It's for you."
"Comin'" Frog sayeth as he got up and walked towards
the door. When he got there, he said "Well, holy ironic
redundancy, Batman! It's Pennywinkel!"
"That it is, Frog. As I've said, I've come to arrest
you."
"Uh-huh, sure. Hey, you're not wearing any rings, are
you?"
"Just this one," she held up a hand containing a black
ring containing the same demon symbol that Frog's had, "Why?"
"Yep, thought so. Time to remove the enchant--"
He had moved to grab the hand so he could remove the ring,
but Pennywinkel had quickly pulled her hand back, saying
"You're not touching this! It's an engagement ring."
Frog was shocked left and left some more at this,
and wondered "Who the heck would be the kind of guy *you*
would get engaged to?"
She giggled, walked down the steps, and, looking face-
to-face at Frog, said "Miles Alpha."

Those words alone seemed to stop time for Frog...

... to bring him back through the years...

... Universes ago...

... when he had first heard that name...

... and saw mass amounts of destruction...

... and had faced many challenges with his friends...

... and had ultimately taught the invader...

... that he had messed with the wrong universe...

"Frog?" Gadget was trying to shake him out of his
stunned state.
Frog suddenly exclaimed "*Miles Alpha*?!?!?!?! You
*can't* be serious! Don't you remember what a born loser
that guy was?"
Pennywinkel seemed offended, and said "Look, I just
want to bring you in. Let's not delay any longer."
She quickly grabbed Frog's neck, and--yet again
astonishing the Rangers--flew upwards and out the door,
with him in her hand.

Not long after reaching the doorway, Frog managed
to garner enough conscious willpower to kick Pennywinkel
square in the stomach, a move she hadn't seemed to expect.
However, he had picked the wrong time, and missed the
landing pad, falling strait to the ground. It was a
miracle he survived and remained conscious (or maybe
it was all that training?) but he did, and was ready
to put up a fight.
"So," Pennywinkel said, descending until she
finally touched the ground, "The mighty Frog is being
rebellious? Or is it playful?" She took off the cape
and hat, and they dematerialized into the nether, which
gave up what appeared to be an ordinary wooden mallet
in return.
"Cut the villain talk, Pennywinkel, it's not
exactly your style." Frog unsheathed his sword.
Pennywinkel laughed, and said "Wow, how correct.
My style is action."
With that, the two fighters rushed at each other.
When they got close enough, Frog swung with his sword,
but Pennywinkel was fast and dodged it, managing to
tiptoe quickly to Frog's back, where she whacked him
with her mallet. From there the fight proceeded to
seem like every move Frog made ended up having an equal
and opposite reaction, which usually involved a good
hard hit.

On the launchpad, the Rangers and Mademanna were
watching the whole thing, not sure if they should help
or not. Chip finally asked "Mademanna, who is that
girl? What is going on? And who is Miles Alpha?"
Mademanna sighed, and said "I suppose I better
start talking..."

To find out wether or not Frog remains conscious,
and to hear whatever horrible backstory Mademanna reveals,
you're gonna have to tune in next week for Episode V -
The Story of My Life.

-------And here now is Episode Two of the-------
-------Pennywinkel Saga of Final Origin---------

FINAL ORIGIN: THE PENNYWINKEL SAGA

EPISODE V - THE STORY OF MY LIFE

The fight between Pennywinkel and Frog was raging
on, and it seemed pretty clear that Pennywinkel may be
the victor.
But Frog turned out to be more thoughtful than one
might initially give him credit for. He eventually managed
to dodge Pennywinkel's strikes and back away, giving him
leeway to prepare an attack.

Up on the launchpad, the Rangers were listening as
Mademanna told the story of Frog and Pennywinkel.
"Shortly after I was created," she began, "Our world
became bad, like a Science Fiction dystopia. Our fathers
wanted a better life for their kids, and were doing research
into quantum physics. So they made the Portalmaster
Project..."

Frog decided to play dirty, and summon up some mystical
energy. So he raised his sword, and, crying out "By the power
of any given Universe!" began to shoot streams of ice and fire
at Pennywinkel, all of which she dodged about as effortlessly
as jumping a non-moving rope.

"... The Portalmaster Project was a huge device which
could send us into other realities, where cartoons are reality.
Our daddies completed it in very short time, and we were sent
through it. Due to some error, however, we are unable to get
back, but our daddies put up large databases of stuff so we
can get cartoons and supplies from our Universe, and Frog
and Pennywinkel have a program called Dimadial on their
laptops which allows them to communicate with each other,
and our world."

Pennywinkel, unphased by Frog's attack, launched a
wave of energy at the ground right below him, causing it
to crumble into a hole, and causing him to fall. However,
that also provided its own exit, so Frog just as quickly
came out, and made a jumping slash at Pennywinkel, who
merely leaned to the left, allowing Frog to successfully
miss.

"Pennywinkel was born different from other girls.
She was a super-genious, and usually figured out things
long before she was supposed to. In short, her deductive
and general thinking skills were beyond one hundred percent.
Her father found out that this was because she had a brainwave
pattern which allows her to think in more than three dimensions,
like a normal human brain."

Frog turned, and using his sword, hurled another stream
of fire at Pennywinkel. He expected her to dodge by ducking,
which is precisely what she did, and, figuring that the fire
was currently blinding her, rushed at her, almost getting burnt
in the process. His attack was almost successful, but she had
somehow seen this coming, and by the time the fire clearned
Frog had no idea where she was.

"And then there's Miles Alpha. I pray you'll never
have to meet him. To understand Miles, you have to understand
reality. I might have mentioned that, where we come from,
you Rangers were just cartoon characters. That is reality:
we are real to ourselves, but to someone else, we are fiction.
Many of us remain obscure while some of us rise above. Miles
somehow managed to defeat his reality before his story was
ever written, and therefore was able to travel to other
universes."

Frog had no idea that he was looking in the direction
Pennywinkel actually was, as she had jumped up high when
he threw the fire. Frog quickly turned around and made a
blocking stance, expecting an attack from behind, not realising
he had just put her at his back, the exact outcome Pennywinkel
had desired. Pennywinkel, in mid air, made a kicking motion,
and came flying at Frog.

"We ended up meeting him in the last universe we were
in. He and his warriors, who are called the Klimakti" that's
klye-mak-tye "ended up almost totally turning the place into
a wasteland, but we had some tough warriors on our side who
had been through worse, and we were able to fight back and
win. Frog personally took the honor of beating Miles Alpha."

Frog felt the impact and ended up getting a really
dirty face. He managed to role over and get back on his
feet just as Pennywinkel had finished a strike with her
mallet. He attempted another attack, but was caught by
Pennywinkel's mallet, and the fight became a struggle
to hold place.

"We left that Universe, but Miles apparently followed
us. When I woke up, I was all alone. When I finally found
Frog, he was out to get me, and I ran. And I never saw
Pennywinkel again before now. And you know the rest of
the story."
"Guys, look!" Gadget exclaimed.

Pennywinkel won the struggling match, forcing Frog's
sword out of his hands, making it fly through the air. She
caught it, then threw her mallet right at Frog's head,
knocking him over backwards.
Frog was just getting over the dizzyness and was about
to get up, when Pennywinkel stood over him, about to stab
him with his own sword.

For the thrilling conclusion of the Pennywinkel Saga,
tune in next week for Episode VI - Pennywinkel Turns! I'm
going to forego a Batman joke here.

-------And here's the exciting conclusion-------
-------of the Pennywinkel Saga of Final Origin--

FINAL ORIGIN: THE PENNYWINKEL SAGA

EPISODE VI - PENNYWINKEL TURNS!

Pennywinkel was leaning over Frog, ready to
stab him with his own sword.
Frog couldn't get up, and as such had no other
options. So he said "Hey, before you do that, can
I ask some questions?"
Pennywinkel was the fair type, and decided to
let him jabber away the last minutes of his life.
So she said "Fine with me."
"Pennywinkel, stabbing a guy with his own weapon...
isn't that kind of irony below you? I thought for sure
you'd think of something more clever."
Pennywinkel's mind was cranking, and she said
"I'm not doing this for cleverness. I'm doing this
for business."
"I see. And what exactly is it that Miles offers
you as a reward?"
"I need no reward, silly. I'm going to marry the
guy and become Queen of the Klimakti! That's good enough."
"I see. Oh, weren't you sent to *capture* me?"
"I was told to attempt capture, but to kill if I
deemed nesecary."

All this time, the Rangers had been making it down
the tree. They got close, and Gadget demanded "Pennywinkel,
stop! Don't you realise what you're doing?"
"Yea, I'm hunting twaitors!"
"But you're under a spell!"
"Whatever."
Frog immediately asked "Hey, Pennywinkel, what exactly
was it about Miles Alpha that made you want to marry him?
Especially at age twelve?"

Pennywinkel's mind was racing at this question.
"I... ummm.... he... he has that quality...."
Her mind was pushing for excuses.
"I mean, he's smart, charming, sensitive... wait
a minute!"
Something in her mind snapped. That something
was called "realization."
"Wait a minute! He's not sensitive, he's a complete
jerk! Totally untrustworthy, and way too much like normal
muscle-bound power-crazed men for me." Pennywinkel threw
Frog's sword to his side. "I can't believe I actually
considered getting engaged to him! In fact, I don't even
remember when, where, or why I did that. I'm going to
take off this ring right now..."
Upon saying that, she pulled off the black magic ring
which had turned her evil. It, like Frog's, disintegrated
in a burst of light.

From behind them, the Rangers heard clapping, and
a male voice saying "Bravo." Out from the shrubbery stepped
a mouse, who outside of silver hair and metallic-looking
skin, looked almost like Frog, even being the same size.
"Frog," he said, "You one day must teach me how you get
all the girls on your side."'
Chip confronted the guy, saying "Am I to suppose
you're the Miles Alpha we've heard so much about?"
"I am."
Pennywinkel wasted no time. She walked up, and
hit the guy on the face as hard as she could. Despite
being (or at least seeming) metallic, Pennywinkel's
hand was fine, but Miles' face had a huge dent in it.
"Does that mean the engagement is off?" Miles
asked flippantly.
"That and this time we intend to make you stay
dead."
"Oh. Is that all." He started to walk away,
back into the shrub from which he came, and gave one
final message:
"I am bringing the Klimakti to this world in
order to populate it. It will serve as a useful base
of operations. I hope I have no objections..."
And Frog sayeth "What you're gonna have is
another long fight between you and me! And I'm
gonna win, like I always do!"
Miles seemed like he was going to make a response,
but decided against it, instead saying "We'll see," and
walking away.

Tune in next week for the first episode of the
Alpha Saga, the third and final Saga of Final Origin.
